Hey i just got my chip,
Now i am just wondering what tools i need 2 install, and where is my ECU located? I checked down in the passenger kick panel, doesn't look like its there... so im thinking its accessible through the engine, upon the firewall. PLEASE help cuz i wanna install this bad boy.

On my 99 the computer is right in front of the glovebox on the passenger side. Just pop your hood and look toward the back and there it is. I don't know if it is the same for a 98, but give it a try. Good luck with the install. Let us know if you are pleased with your chip

Yup, it will be in the firewall accessable from under the hood, in front of the glovebox.

1) disconnect the (-) battery cable
2) undo the bolt that holds the wiring harness onto the computer, I think it's an 11mm bolt
3) undo the two bolts on either side of the computer, I think they're 10mm.
4) slowly and carefully pull the computer out
5) take off the access cover on the back of the computer
6) using Qtips and alcohol, clean off the terminal under that cover
7) attach the chip, maybe put duct tape over it to hold it on.
8) reinstall the computer. my hypertech came with a spacer to allow the computer to fit properly with the added length of the chip. Some members use a dremel to grind off a tab inside the computer compartment so the computer fits back in flush. Some make spacers out of various materials
9) redo the 3 bolts
10) reconnect the battery
11) let the truck idle w/o any accessories for about 10-15 minutes, then go drive around!
12) have 93 octane in the tank when you install the chip
13) if your truck seems to have problems (stalling, etc) besides normal resetting the idle flukes, either the chip isn't seated well, you didn't clean the terminal enough, or its the wrong chip

Good luck! Can you tell I like lists?
