During colder weather here we've noticed a chirping noise in the engine, just slight on start up & will continue going down the road when accelerating until the vehicle is warmed up good. When the weather is warmer we don't notice it. We've replaced the serp. belt & that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas out there? Also is it safe to just put up with the noise? Otherwise the vehicle runs great!

thanks for any help out there!

It might be one of the pulleys, my AC pulley has done that before. I have sprayed silicone spray into the pulley and it usually lasts up to 6 months.

Welcome to the site. You didn't say what year your Explorer is. If it's a 98 or 99, could be the dust boot cover/hub seals. They squeak while rolling in the cold weather, then go away above 40MPH. Search for those terms for more info.....

Then it's not what I said. Check the pullies. You might have one with a bearing going. Does it do it at idle, or only when moving?

Thanks for the response...it does it ever so slightly while idling and get increasingly louder and more chirpy when accelerated. But like I said, we changed the serp belt so we will check pulleys now also. When it's warm it doesn't seem to do it all! go figure! :)
