Chrome Wheels ?????

I have stock chrome wheels on my 05 the chrome seems to be a cover on the aluminum wheels. I just got a new set of what I thought were the same wheels. These are not covered they are chromed aluminum the real thing. Why did ford make both kinds? Years etc.

The aftermarket Ford "accessory" wheels were the real thing, but the ones installed from the factory were what they called "chrome clad". I too thought that a bit odd, but have no better explanation for it.

it's cheaper to chrome clad a wheel then to polish the aluminum

A lot of manufacturers are doing it now.

Chrome plastic cover over an aluminum or steel wheel.

Our 99 Navi had the same thing. Friends 03 Durango Limited has the same thing, that one is a real work of art. 2nd and 3rd row seats are ALL vinyl. HA!
