Heyo,

So I started my truck up this evening and right after I turned the key, it started to jump from 800-1500 rpm's very quickly for multiple cycles. The engine sounded like a train... hence the title of this post. Got any ideas?

I went ahead and kept driving, no problem. Restarted it to go home, no problem. So I don't know if this is a one time thing and like all things, it was just "having a moment" :thumbdwn: but I don't know what is going on.

Should I be worried?
Thanks,
J.B.

When's the last time you cleaned the IAC, MAF, EGR or the Air Filter? Tune-up?

Errrrr....a while.

Be gentle.

How many miles, ever replace the fuel filter? It's hard to narrow down. It could be any of these routine maintenance things if they haven't been done. Get to it man, LOL

I personally have never replaced a fuel filter. Or cleaned any of those myself. The truck has 108k miles on it now and it got the big 100k mile checkup so im due for a 3000-5000 mile "check up" soon.

Start reading up on all these easy to do-it-yourself maintenance things. Don't waste money paying a garage to do them.

Before I bought my ST I wouldn't have ever thought about doing these things myself but between this site and the www.mysporttrac.com site They've saved me over $5-6k in repairs, custom work/ mods I've done myself instead of paying someone else.

And that's why the Elite membership is a small way to give back. :D

Plug over.

LOL, yep, I'm Elite, yay, LOL

I'm ordering 4 license plate frames tomorrow too. Only need two, one for each rig but I'll have extra's just incase.

I put my money in paypal a few days ago for Elite! Thanks guys,

So check out...
MAF
Air Filter

whats ERG and IAC?

IAC = Idle Air Control module (on top of the throttle body). EGR is at the end of the metal tube on the drivers side coming from the header to the intake, sorry on phone right now or I'd post pictures. Look in the projects section of the www.mysporttrac.com site or search on this site for cleaning these parts.

I did the IAC, MAF and throttle body a few weeks ago and gotta say it made a big improvement in idle, acceleration and just overall running condition. I thought it was fine before but apparently it wasn't. The throttle body was caked in buildup.

Ah, yes, that's a good one. Probably step one. DOH!

My check engine light isn't on though..

I need to go elite myself. I do try to contribute as much as I can. Been very busy lately and haven't been on here as much. That will change soon.

You can have codes present but no MIL.

Did it again today. This time I was in reverse and it shot me backwards almost into another car... kinda worried now?
