How will I know when I need to clean or re-oil my KKM filter? Will the oil/cleaner for the K&N filters work or will I need to buy some from the KKM company?

I know it came with instructions but I lost them when I moved. Any help would be great.

Clean when it looks nasty.

Yes, the K & N cleaner kit works fine.

I have had mine for 2 1/2 years and have found that I need to clean it twice a year, I do it in the Spring & Fall. If I let it go too long I notice a loss in engine performance and hesitation. I noticed that when it gets clogged it gets more brown than the normal red that it looks like after oiling.

It is fine to use the K&N filter cleaner. I' m sure that instructions will be included.

It is important not to over-oil the filter. Only a slight-uniform coating should be applied to the entire filter surface. Do it as if you were applying a first coat of paint to something. Drips and runs are bad.

Oh, and after cleaning you need to let it air dry. I always plan ahead so I can let it dry overnight.

When you clean it make sure you clean from the inside out:D

I usually clean mine 2X a year, but think 3-4X a year for optimum performance - every 3 months. Last time I cleaned mine and the MAF with Q-tip and alcohol on filaments and in the MAF housing (very dirty) - I noticed and improvement in smoothness in the auto tranny shifting
