Cleaning undercarriage

I need to find an oil leak under my car but its too dirty to pinpoint anything. I bought some engine degreaser, but it says to use it when the surface is cool and dry. I think that only applies to the engine, but does it also apply to the undercarriage?

You are ready to start cleaning. The cautionary instruction is probably just to make sure you do not blow yourself up working with the hot engine and flammable cleaner.

Thanks, I was able to get it to cool first, and drove it onto a ramp for easier access. I just wish I had a better angle to spray at.
