Clicking sound on 1999 Sport

I recently bought a 99 Explorer Sport for my son. When it is idling, it has an annoying clicking sound. Any idea what causes this and how it can be corrected? He said he was stopped at a redlight the other day and the motor died, but, started back with no problem. Thanks for your help.

hmm that can really be anyting.. i know when i have the heat on, one of the relays directly in front of the drivers side in front of the firewall will tick every now and then.
