I am having an unusual (maybe) problem with my climate control selection. It is the manual system. Basically, no matter what direction I set it for, a small amount of airflow continues to come out of the defroster vents. I can set it to floor or dash, and the vast majority of the air will come out where I have set to, but a small amount still comes out of the defroster vents. Any ideas?? I do assume a vacuum leak somewhere. Could a leaking brake boosted cause an issue like this? My pedal is awfully squishy, and used to not be. I have not found any vacuum lines broken, loose, etc.. so far.

I have not seen this exact issue addressed on this forum.

I just addressed this issue and there is a thread on this a couple of rows down. I have the asame exact problem. According to the feed back i got here, its the vacuum lines. Read my thread on it and follow what they told me to do.

Thanks Biglove. My problem is a little different though because the air will flow through the "correct" setting, just a small amount still goes to the defrost at the same time. The problem you are having is much more common than mine, and I did find your thread and others explaining how to fix it if all the air flow is to the defrost vents.

Thanks again for giving me the link to your thread though.

Any other ideas???

Follow-up. Turned out to be a leaking brake booster. Had shop run vacuum test. With brake booster unplugged and hose capped, system held vacuum. With booster back in the mix, would not hold vacuum. Another symptom for me was I was getting a hissing sound we pressing the brake pedal (almost sounded like air brakes, haha). This hissing became more noticeable over the past couple of weeks. Hope my experience with having and finding the vacuum leak helps someone else.
