After arriving in Washington and being subjected to lots of rain, I began to hear sloshing sound like water was trapped somewhere on the right side near the passenger area. Mechanic said it was probably a trapped drain because it sounded like the water was in the heater box? Anyway, I had been in an area with lots of pine needles and believe this is the problem. They went through the vents. The mechanic said he would have to take off the windshield wipers and vent cover to get to the drain. Is this something a savy handy woman could do? Or is there a less complicated way to get to this drain to unclog it?

It's pretty easy to do, just remove the wiper arms, then remove the screws that hold the cowl panels on and start removing the debris that is blocking the drain down inside the cowl.

Thanks everyone for the help. I had to have some work done on the sport trac anyway so I had the mechanic pull the cowl. Unfortunately, it wasn't the problem. So now I'm back for more advice. It started out with me hearing a lot of water sliding back and forth near the floorboard on the passenger side. The mechanic that worked on my truck thought he heard it coming from the heater box and thought the drain might be plugged that drains the water that comes in through where the wipers are attached. He checked it and it wasn't clogged. I notice that there is a small amount of water under the front and back passenger side floor mats. It goes away if it hasn't rained in several days but of course it rains all the time here. I read swshawaii thread regarding locating a drain but I don't have a sunroof either and my water is on the passenger side.
