Clunk! Bang! Growl.. Any ideas..?

I recently changed the wheel bearing hubs on both front wheels, plus brake pads on all four wheels on my 1998 Explorer
I also bought a set of two new front tyres..
Now, there is a clunk or bang that seems to be coming from the rear now and then, and it is like the car is nugging a little along with the clunk/bang...
I read somewhere that it might be the 4wd turning on and off due to the different wheels. The bang comes in intervals every 30 seconds to a minute..
Today I put it in 4x4 high, and the same happened, but there were also a growling/grinding noise from the front when I was driving slowly.. Stopping the car, turning it back to Auto, the clunk/bang took longer intervals before appearing again.

Any ideas what might cause this?
I am for sure going to buy new tyres, 4 of them this time..

Not having 4 matched tires (tyres) could definitely do it. If they aren't matched, start there.

+1 rb tires must be replaced in sets of four or five depending on how you rotate them.

Have you greased the drive shaft within the last few dozens of thousands of miles?

I bought this car a few months ago and this is my first 4X4, so this is pretty new to me.
I have not greased the drive shaft. I read about the famous Explorer "Clunk" on different forums, and will check it out.
New tyres are ordered!

Bought 4 new tires. Still knocking sound from the rear.
Greased the slip yoke. Still knocking sound from the rear. No change. The knock appears when driving normally, but increases when speeding. It comes and goes within 10 - 30 seconds when driving.Could the splines in the slip yoke be worn so it slips?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

It's not the slip yoke. Could be a bad U-joint. Could be in the rear diff or the transfer case. You're going to have to narrow it down more.

i have AWD and don't know much about 4x4, but thats sounds like the 4x4 is trying to engage and something is stuck, shift motor maybe?

Try removing your front driveshaft and go for a drive. Could be the CV joint going bad.
