'91 Ranger 2wd
I just got my first Ford Ranger. It's a 91 2wd. The clutch needs adjusting but I can't see anything moving underneath. This is a Great little truck and I hate the thought of damaging the clutch. Thanks for your help all.

Hi,
I have a 97 Ranger and there is no adjustment since it is a hydraulic clutch actuation system. I am almost certain the 91 is the same. You can still check the fluid level in the master cylinder (driver side on the 97).
I am actually a pedestrian right now as my 5sp manual 97 is in the shop because it does not go in 1st or 2nd and has trouble going in 3rd but this will be a new thread....
Good luck.
Patrick.

Why would you think it needs adjusting what problems are you having? might be the problematic slave cylinder.

Bicause...

The reason that I think it's out of adjustment is because I used to manually adjustment clutches and I know that a properly adjusted clutch should start to engage at about 1" from the floor, but, this one is almost all the way out before it engages. I know the old saying "it in ain't broke, don't fix it". However, I am also well aware of the problems that can combine when something is out of adjustment. It seems to work great and I love my new little red ranger. I would just like to keep it working great. Thanks for all your help. I guess my next should be to invest in a manual for by little truck.

there is no adjustment for the clutch. if it engages almost all the way out means its a fairly new clutch in there. closer it gets to the floor the more woren it is.

Thank you all for your help.

yep! a buddy just had a new clutch in his little integra and it doesnt 'pop' till almost all the way out

try bleeding it? not sure if it has a bleeder screw above the line at the trans

The way a clutch works and grabs varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. The Ford clutches tend to do that when they get a little older.

I just had a clutch (and pressure plate, and release bearing, and slave cylinder, and master cylinder, and fluid line) put in my 94 Ranger two weeks ago. It starts to engage when the pedal is close to the floor, and has a much longer travel to full engagement than the previous clutch did when it was new. As Briwayjones said, there's no one certain place Ford (or anybody else's) clutches engage. This will vary within car brands and clutch manufacturers.

You are right about "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". There is indeed a bleeder screw on the side of the transmission, if you want to check that, but there is no adjustment you can do. Just drive it until it starts to slip, and then replace it.:)

now that im kind of awake, if its engaging near the top bleeding it probably wont do anything :D
