hi folks,
2001 Sporttrac sohc, 5spd. 210,000
today after stomping on the clutch and twisting the key.. nada..
no beep, click or stutter.
bump starting - she runs just fine.

peering under the dash, found multiple wires going to an ugly looking component.
was hoping i could jump across the a couple wires and bypass the dang switch.

anyone have a wiring diagram or suggestions?

many thanks.

Very good resource but sometimes the colors are off. Good none the less.

As far as the clutch switch, replace it. It's cheap and a good safety feature. If there are no dings when you turn the key you have other problems than just the clutch switch.

Clutch Switch Nasty Effect

There is one condition which is not real common, but happens often enough to mention, in case someone needs to know sometime:

In the event of a number of problems, notably clutch release mechanism cannot release clutch, throw-out bearing broke, transmission "locked" in gear, among others, and yer "out in the boonies" with nobody around to push-start you, one would put the transmission in first gear, "crank-push" the vehicle to get it started: ya can't do that because of the dang clutch interlock switch. So, if you regard that switch as a significant safety feature (it prevents starting in gear and lurching forward), ya gotta jumper it to "start-push" in an emergency.

Many 4-wheelers regard the interlock switch as an unwanted feature. People by the millions, drove manual transmissions by the millions, for many decades without such damned "protection".

appreciate the feedback.
to clarify - turning the key to the on position - all the lights and bells work as they should..
when twisting to the START position - nothing..
i have never liked the clutch interlock..but that's life.
.turning the key ON and bump starting works perfectly.
however not many parking lots in pheonix have a slope.

will peruse the wiring diagrams and do additional trouble shooting..
probly should try and jump directly to the starter...

ya'll stay cool...
