Ok, I am getting geared up to do a 5speed swap in my '92 4x4, I am also biting the bullet and replacing the clutch at the same time. Today while talking to the transmission guy, he claims that the slave cylinder will need to be replaced also, that once you disconnect it, and try to reconnect, it will leak for sure. Anybody know if this is true or not? Also, do I need to replace the pilot bushing/bearing at the same time? Thanks.

You don't really have to replace any of that stuff if the problem is your transmission. The slave will disconnect and reconnect without leaking. However....do you really feel like dropping everything again if you have to replace it sometime in the near future?

You can get kits from places like Luk Clutches that contain everything you will need for $190 from dailaclutch.com....or $350 for the HP version.

The hydraulic line at the slave can be a ***** to disconnect, and if it gets chewed up while trying to disconnect it, yeah, it might leak.

But the bigger picture is, you really should replace all clutch parts while you're doing this swap, using quality parts. LUK and dialaclutch recommended! :D

I agree, the slave cylinder is like $50 and is usually the first thing to go in the system.

Thanks guys, I had looked at that clutch kit from searching the web, I was uneasy about the mixed brands they say are in the kit, has anybody actually ordered and installed one of these?

I'm running a LUK Pro Gold....or whatever it's called in my explorer. No problems so far.

Mixed brands? Not sure what you're talking about. Post the link.

I bought the LUK Gold package from dialaclutch, everything works fine.
