Hi all, the check engine light came on the other day, checked the code: 173 rich bank 1.
Looked it up on the forum, went to Autozone grabbed an FPR for $77, installed it and no more light.

Write-up:
- Ran the car, pull the fuel relay fuse
- Tried starting the car a few times to drain some more gas
- Unscrewed the fuel line going on top of the FPR (17mm)
- Unscrewed the two bolts holding the FPR to the fuel intake (8mm)
- Pulled out the FPR (got lots of pressurized air and gas, careful!)
- Lubed o-ring of new one with some oil
- Pushed the new one in, installed the two screws, plus fuel line
- Fired it up and no more check engine light!

sounds good

This works on your 92, it only has one O2 sensor and therefore one "bank"( all 6) of the cylinders are monitored. California emission trucks have 2 sensors and the computer looks at two banks a right and left. The regulator affects all cylinders and may not be the answer on these trucks.

Good job finding your problem. I struggled with a 302 mustang that had a 172 code, right bank lean. These can be difficult to diagnose. The problem wound up being in the valves.

Same code - same result except FPR now $102.
