95 XLT. OK till now. Getting continuous check engine light. Reading the error code gets a 214, which the book says is "cylinder identification circuit failure". Clearing the code works, but it comes back on the next start. Anyone have any idea what to look at to fix this one? The engine 'stumbles' when I hit the gas lightly, otherwise seems OK, no noticeable change in power, driveability or mileage. Just over 101k miles.

From Mitchell for a '95 Explorer:
CID signal provides PCM information for fuel injector
synchronization. The CID signal is generated from Camshaft Position
(CMP) sensor....Code 214 indicates error has been detected in CID sensor
input signal. Error could be due to a hard fault or an intermittent fault. Possible causes for this fault are:
* Open or shorted wiring harness.
* Faulty CMP sensor.
* Faulty ICM.
* Faulty PCM.

I won't completely recreate the circuit test here. Basically, start by checking the wiring between the CMP, PC, and ICM.

I have exactly the same situation in my 1994 Explorer. Did you resolve yours? If so; what did you find?

Mr. Shorty;

Obviously you know your way around this newfamgled electronic complication whereas I, read all these little 3letter abbreviations for things and have no idea what these things look like! Any chance of some photos of these objects?

Many Thanks from an ignorant somewhat old guy;

DJ9
