Have a '97 Explorer XLT 4WD 4.0 engine, showing codes PO153 slow responce,
bank 2 sensor 1,PO401 EGR insufficient flow, and PO402 EGR excessive flow.
What has to be changed and in what order. Could some other part of EGR system be bad?

O2 sensor and bad dpfe sensor

The DPFE is pastic not metal, which sounds like it has been replaced before, but I think you are right. This may give a false O sensor reading. Thanks, ftford

Thanks, what about the EGR valve. Was thinking about replacing it and the dpfe. Engine runs fine and the gas mileage has not changed. ftford

Change DPFE sensor today. Will have to wait til I drive 45-50 miles. Found water in sensor on ref side.

DPFE sonsor was cloged with water. Replaced and drove 80 miles, no check engine light on. Passed NC state inspection.
Thanks to all,
ftford
