ive looked at doing this, the top of the coils measure 4.5 inches across verify this on your model. jack up the front of the truck from the frame, since the truck uses struts any height you get from the spacer you will be loosing in droop. droop is what absorbs bumps. at the point were the tires start to loose the ground thats as high as you could go and it will ride terable.a 1 inch spacer normally gives about 1.5-2inches of lift.
i think a 1 inch spacer could be done without too much loss of ride, go to your local auto parts stores and look at chevy, dodge, ford etc rubber cheapo spacers to find one with the correct measurement then get a nice day star etc spacer.
hope this helps ive not decided hether to persue this or not.
no there isnt a spacer made for the explorer 3rd gen... i called daystar and other companies to see... daystar used to make a coil spacer that fit the ranger and explorer but they stopped putting it out because it was unreliable.. the cheap rubber spacers dryrot in less than a month... trust my ive tried everything and the only thing thats worked is buying a custom set of "lifted" springs.. the reason lifted is in quotes is because its not a bigger spring, but a stronger spring so it has more resistance, thus, results a lift... go to coilsprings.com... click "custom cars" at the bottom and get quoted on a set... i lifted my front 2 inches for about 180 bux and i could have installed them myself but didnt have the necessary supplies... just give them the OEM number off ur coil and they will make a custom set.. just replace the factory springs with these to get a lift... people say wheel travel may be limited but i cant really tell much difference and it looks awesome... if u want pictures just message back to this thread..
