cold air for 92

There was a post a while back where Robert explained some temperature tests he did. He had several thermometers hooked up under the hood and found that while moving the KKM will be drawing air that is roughly the same temp as outside air. The only time it was drawing hotter air was when the truck was not moving. Do a search and see if you can find it. I think running all those pipes to get "cold" air to the filter is a waste of time... unless you want those extra horses for idle. :)

That sounds about right to me but if you replace the stock pipe with an aftermarket pipe, odds are you will get an increase in power because the aftermarket pipes are straight and do not have silencers in them which slow down the air flow.

zensius said how is pulling air from the engine "cold air"....well i thought of this, thats why i am making a heat shield for my cone filter, to block the heat from the engine somewhat.

I think the purpose of that hose is to pull any gases out of the engine that might escape through the valves or past the rings and recycle them through the intake. I don't know that venting them to the outside air is what the EPA had in mind, but then I am not the blue oval engineer either.

crankcase vent?
what is the crankcase vent?

heres a good idea...since when i went to lowes and was getting the air fitting, they had no idea what the hell i was talking bout so i went to true value hardware ..and the guy didn't really understand but he pointed me at a pvc pipe with a hole in it where a "barb fitting" can go...and it seems like it will work good

however the 22 1/2 angle elbow doesn't seem like its enough for me...for some reason, i'm leaving the bottom of the air filter box on, so i'm gonna pick up a 45 and see how that works....

i will get pictures when i'm done....should be in the next week....waiting for my adapter for cone filter to come ....

I read the Haynes manual about the vent hose that connects to the air intake. It seems that it does draw fresh air from tha tube, so I don't know why a small filter wouldn't work. I am going to hook mine up like the stock one was, just to make sure.

Right now i'm running with and insulated intake pipe
I want to make on for aluminum and i might have it created for the 4x4 weekend in PA
I planning on trying and making it down.

GOOD NEWS!!

I found a guy who makes the kits for the 91-94's. Check out ifab.net , I am currently talking with him about a group purchase for just the intake tube for those who already have the KKM and for a price for a whole kit. The tube should be somewhere around $100 and $200 for the whole kit. Now that is just a ball park range he gave me and said that the kit would end up being cheaper because he is talking to suppliers for cheaper parts but I need to know who is definitly in for one. either email me ( cowboyz1659@hotmail.com ) or just reply here.

I've been dealing with him for the past 3 weeks for a group purchase. Have you talked with Rick yet? He told me 15% off for a forum member...and 15% additional off if we can get 10 people. Total for whole kit...$140.

I would definitely be interested in this. I looked at what he has now but will it work with the stock MAS. I am too poor to spendthat much for a new MAS. Does anybody know where i can get a good MAS for less than $340?
e-mail me at xtrmdevildog@hotmail.com

I believe they come with an adapter for the MAS.

I would like to know what the intake pipe is made out of.
Also I would like to LOOKS like
Before I give a definate answer

Does he actually make them for Explorers? According to the pics they are just for Rangers, because the filter is in the place where the battery would be on an Explorer.

Limited Ex- I noticed that problem and emailed him a pic of my engine and he said he was gonna work on making a pipe for it.

parli22 - The pipe is the basic chrome intake pipe with blue couplings. It's the same as in the pictures but made to fit.

From MY dealings with him...he already has a drawing of what the intake for the older explorers should look like. The ranger one is in the exact same position as the intakes for my year explorer. Real nice guy though...especially considering he is going through multiple people on this.

Check out pro-flow. They have 70 and 75 mm MAS for Explorer's and they are calibrated for your vehicle. I received mine, but have not had a chance to install it yet. You can order a plastic 75 mm for $199 or a chrome one for $249.
