I am having troubles with my Explorer in the cool mornings. It starts up fine every time, but in the mornings, it does not accelerate fast enough. It idols around 500 RPMs while I am having this issue. When it is not havinf this problem it idols around 1000. When I press on the gas pedal, to the floor, I feel my truck shift back when it starts to accelerate correctly. My dad and I replaced a piece a few days ago, along with two hoses (That he said with his research might fix this problem). After we replaced this unit, I drove around for a bit, getting my truck up to 55 MPH. First gear there is nothing really noticable, but in second and higher it sounds like the engine is struggling to accelerate. When the engine is hot, or when I start it up once the temperature is warmed up, everything is normal. The check engine light does pop on but goes off shortly after.

I, myself, know very little about vehicles. I know enough to do basic maintanance.

sounds like the maybe the iac valve ( idel air control ) needs cleaning or replaced .it's the oblong shaped canister looking thing bolted on the upper intake plenium . take off the bolts and unhook the harness and clean out the iac faceing downward ( just make sure when you spray it out that the 2 holes are looking downward so that the solvent can drain out and not pool up inside the motor side of the unit ) ...let it dry really good ( air hose can not hurt either) and re-install .

note ... not sure that after doing this that you would need to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes ....may have to .

hope this helps .:salute:
