Cold starting problems.

hi folks,ive got a 4.0 litre 1997 model only 51000 miles and runs lovely,BUT first thing in the morning it starts first time ,then stamers on the revs,up to 2000 then down to about 500 then reapeats until engine is semi warm,if i try to drive it before the engine is semi warm the orange engine light comes on? once it is warm she purrrs,can anyone help? we have changed the temp sensor but no difference

IAC valve, MAF sensor then gaskets

I suspect that you have the SOHC V6 and probably have leaking upper or lower or both intake manifold gaskets. However, first I would clean the IAC valve, then clean the MAF sensor. Replacing the manifold gaskets takes quite a bit of time but is not that difficult. You can get an idea by reviewing my thread: Starting my 00M12 Installation
Just ignore the parts about the tensioner and restrictor.
