The main thread is getting pretty onerous so I am splitting a couple of more topics out. This one is for the group dinner.

I need a vote from all participants where we would like to go. I will then narrow it down and contact the preferred restaurant(s) in order of the vote and see about their ability to take a resv for a number of people. Of the restaurants in Ouray, I deleted several from contention for various reasons (coffe/breakfast houses, no alcohol served, etc). Here's what is left and their menus:

Bon Ton / Fine Italian cuisine
Buen Tiempo / Mexican-Southwestern, great Margaritas
Cecilia's / Family style restaurant
Gavito's Pizza / Homemade pizza, clazones, breadsticks
Monte Alta Bar & Restaurant / Pizza, Pasta & Mediterranean dishes
Outlaw Restaurant & Cookout / Bar, Steak, Seafood, Chicken
Pinon / Gracious dining; aged beef, duck, elk, etc, seafood
Silver Nugget / Traditional dining, reasonable prices
True Grit in Ridgway / Burgers, Steaks, Chicken, & Beer - American Food. "Non-Rowdy" Bar

If you are coming, answer this thread with your preferred restaurant. I also need a headcount so I know how many people we are talking about trying to seat at once, so with your vote also list how many will be in your party.

I vote for either Buen Tiempo or True Grit, either one I can't decide between them. I'd love Pinon but it sounds pricey enough to disallow some of us coming with kids and families.

Our vote is True Grit. It was great. :bounce: Head count = 2
Besides, if it's good enough for John Wayne, it must be good enough for us! :D

True Grit works for me, although I recall Montes and Silver Nugget are also good, so either way.

Buen Tiempo
Head Count=2
I like Margaritas and Mexican food. :bounce:

I like Truly Gritty food, make it 2 more... :D

two heads for the Grit...

Warren and Christine -

I do not recommend going to Cecilia's. We had a bad experience there when we were in Ouray a month ago. It looks like True Grit is winning anyway. As for me I still don't know if I will be going or not so I will not vote.

We vote for True Grit
Perry
3 in our family

True Grit

4 more for True Grit.

They all sound good - anywhere is find, head count of 2.

Buen Tiempo / Mexican-Southwestern, great Margaritas
-or-
True Grit

Two heads (Trint and Tammy)

We both love Mexican and good Margaritas, but I'm big into the old style famly burger place too.

True Grit, (And we'll fix that non-rowdy bar stuff). ;)

BIG Problem

It is obvious that True Grit is the choice. I just called them and they DO NOT TAKE RESERVATIONS. I am extremely leery of just showing up with 30 people on a holiday weekend night. This ain't gonna work. A manager-type may get back with me this weekend to work something out. The upstairs section is the smoking section which will not be held for a group. The only chance we do have would be at the patio outdoor section, at the whim of mother nature. I want something a whole lot more certain than this. It is now 8:30pm Colorado time and my conversation on the phone was pretty tough from all the noise. This is a rockin' place after all, and on a Saturday nite holiday I have no desire to show up there with over two dozen people. We'd be eating bacon and eggs by the time they were able to seat us.

So, should all this fail;

The only other interest is in Buen Tiempo which is fine by me. I will call them right now to see what can be worked out, and if they have a good choice in standard foods if Southwestern/Mexican is a little too spicy for you.

If True Grit won't take a reservation it will be Buen Tiempo. If Buen Tiempo won't either my third try will be at Outlaw. If you have a problem with that please let me know ASAP.

We're not picky...

Whatever is chosen by the group will be fine with us. It's the head count that's most important and I wholeheartedly agree, 30+ people without some arrangements would be bad... ;)

Well Gerald,
That explains why no one was real motivated to return my calls about reservations. I called twice to talk to the elusive "Tammy", the manager. I also spoke hypothetically with the waitress/bartender about accomodating large groups upstairs. I know they don't do regular "dinner for four at 8:00" reservations but think they may do something with large groups. When we were there with Rick and Char, I was told the upstairs was not open (reserved). But, until one of us gets through to the mgr and gets solid info, it's still a big if...
I will keep trying...

We got True Grit

The elusive "Tammy" really exists. We have the upper section reserved for 7:30pm. I'll spend the next few days ironing out details.
More to come. I'll need some input from everyone because there may be a group menu option they we may or may not be interested in.

Gerald... YOU DA MAN!!!

It will be a great choice for the group dinner. And I gotta hand it to you on nailing down the reservation, etc. Especially on Saturday night, Labor Day weekend, during the local Fair/Rodeo. I was beginning to think it was gonna be 7eleven burritos for all.. ;)
Thanks again...
Warren
