2003 XLS
I have a 2003 XLS, the bottom base model. The message center only has the trip odometer. However, when I turn it on, all the lights flash and I can see that there are the lights for the compass and thermometer there too. Does anybody know what I need to get/change in order to get those working?

FYI, I have no interest in changing the rear view mirror to get that functionality because the cost is too high.
Thanks!
Jeff

Hi Jeff-

I have the same question as you.... Just bought a 2004 XLS Sport model. Did you ever find the solution to add the thermometer?

I am doing a little research on the web, than maybe will purchase a service manual CD to see if it may be possible. So far nothing has turned up on the web.

Let me know

Sorry, never heard from anybody and have been unable to find anything elsewhere. I resorted to buying a clock/thermometer to attach underneath the dashboard console but gave up on last week because it would keep switching between centigrade and fahrenheit when it was clearly set for fahrenheit , and the outside temperature was never close to being accurate.

I bought another clock/thermometer brand but that outside temperature isn't accurate either. I have tried the external sensor various places inside the door jamb outside the rubber strip so it should be getting outside temperature, but never cold enough. I'm about ready to give up.

There must be a way to get the Explorer items working so would be happy to work with you to resolve the issue if I can.

I am thinking about purchasing a Sevice Manual on DVD to see if I can figure out an install that way.

My '04 XLS was manufactured weeks(!$@#) before the being equipped with the new 4 wheel tire pressure sensor (complete with idiot light in the dash) So I'd be interested to see if I can add that also.

The DVD service manuals are $39.99 on EBay which seems kinda steep if its just a copy, or OK if it's professionally produced so I'm doing a little research on it first.
