Compatibility engine ford explorer 2005

I have to replace the engine of my ford explorer 2005 4.0 with 163500km 6 cylinders.
I want to know the compatibility of the engines.
Can I replace my engine with an engine of ford explorer 2006, 2007, 2008 or others ?

I believe that some of the newer Rangers have the 4.0 l SOHV engines. My 04 does.

I did a 4.0 v6 out of a 2007 Mustang. I had to change exhaust manifolds, valve covers, fuel rail and injectors. Cheaper to buy an engine out of a mustang than almost any other vehicle.
