If one were to install 5 1/4 inch component speakers in the front doors of an Explorer.... does an adaptor come with the speaker?

To quote from Crutchdiels...

>>A speaker bracket is required. It is included free with your speaker purchase<<

Is this bracket an adaptor to fit a 5 1/4 in a 6x8 hole?

Thanks......

Yes

I thought it was 5x7?

But anyways, so it does come with an adapter to mount a 5.25 inch speaker in teh factory 5x7 slot?

Im looking at some infinity Perfect 5.1s on ebay and im wondering what the install is gonna be like on them.

5x7/6x8... Either will fit.

Crutchfield will supply you with an adaptor to fit a 5.25" speaker into your 5x7/6x8 slot, but if you ask me, you are better off buying the speakers somewhere else and saving a ton of money on them, then building adaptors yourself (out of MDF, metal, pretty much anything - can be done with simple hand tools). You will still end up saving some money if you go the non-crutchfield route and build your own adaptors.... I don't know about you guys, but I prefer to build stuff myself :)

Example of how to mount in the factory location:

if you get a beefy 6.5 or 5.25 there is a high chance that the crappy plastic adapter they include won't give you enough clearance between the magnet and the rolled down window. i know that my 6.5s required a 3/4 inch spacer/adaptor

If the plastic adapter does give you sufficient clearance for the magnet, they are flimsy enough that you need to beef them somewhat or they will rattle and buzz. For my niece's car, we dynamatted both sides of the Scosche adapter that she got from Wal Mart, which surprisingly stiffened it up quite a bit so that it didn't flex or warp when screwed down to the door. We then trashed the speed nuts with wood/metal screws that came with the speakers and used #8 machine screws with flats, locks, and nuts to secure the speaker cone to the adapter.

yup I too had to dynamat both sides of my plastic adaptors till they were ok to use....

u can just see from this thread how well some things are put together lol...u buy it pre maid and STILL have to work on it :( dude!
