I bought a used 2000 XLT with 26k on it. Been real pleased with it so far. ( about 5 months now) My mothers '99 had to have a new engine at 40k and other Explorer owners have mentioned something about "tentioners" clicking. I have the SOHC. What should I look out for?

Thanks

Welcome to the board!

I have the V8, so I can't help - but the only thing that I can recomend (as it seams), is buy an extended warranty when the time comes. Someone mentioned that as the 2001 V8 was nearing the end of production, the production plant didn't really care about the specs and that the quality may have been a bit down. It's an interesting theory. Heck, for 6yr/100K no deductable, full rental reimbursement for $900, I couldn't pass up the extension.

Just my 2 cents.

Hey man , I have a 2000 Sport. I got it used with a baby 17,000. The first week I heared a metal on metal rattle from the lower front of the motor. That was the tensioners. It is not too loud nor 100% of the time. If I needed mine replaced at 17k I'll recon you neeed it at 26k. You still should have some origonal factory warrenty I believe.

Thanks guys,

I'm going to try to drop by the dealer this week.
