2002 explorer EB 4x4
I have an 02 EB Exp 4x4 and bought this vehicle in Oct 05. About 2 months ago I started noticing the geras didnt seem to be shifting as smoothly as they had been previously. Initially I thought perhaps I just needed a transmission service but then I started to notice it more.. especially when I would shift from Reverse to Drive. Now I have noticed that in the low gears it seems to "stick" a bit and sometimes when I stop i hear a a little "thud".

I first took it to a local shop who coulnt look at it because it has the infilter on the tranny so I took it to AAMCO where they did the road test and external diagnostic and told me that my tranny was having a "heart attack" and I need a new (rebuilt) transmission immediately. I was abit skeptical because the guys wouldnt discuss it in front of me, only out in the garage.. anyways... I decided to get a second opinion and took it to a shop where they did the computer test and got an error of P0402 (which now I know was an exhaust error), this shop told me there wasn't really a problem with the tranny but if I wanted to he would replace the case and the alum bushings with bronze replacements and I should just drive it until I couldnt any longer. At this point I was aggravated , so I took it to another shop and they did a service on thetranny and he couldnt tell what it was unless he took the tranny apart and said it may be that the valves are stuck but wont know until it is taken apart.

I have received three seperate diagnostics... what do I do???

DO a search on "solenoid block". One of the first symptoms I had was shifting from reverse into drive.
How many miles do you have on it?

Dave

miles

I have 65500.

I read up on the solenoid block porblems on the board and I am amazed at all the 02 EB V8 explorer tranny problems like mine.

you would think that would be a recall , but hey... just my opinion.

I do apprecaite the help with this. I am a woman and I really do wish I would have found this forum first before I took it in to the different shops.

:)

I can "loan" you a block to try out.... As I recall I sold Dave the one he replaced successfully with good results. Your mileage may vary.

ps. Transmission shops tend to want to rebuild rather than diagnose. More $$ in it. AAMCO is among the worst at this, but not alone by any means.
