Im not sure if this is in the wrong section of the forum, if it is, I apologize.

I was talking to my buddy earlier today, and we were trying to figure out what would happen if you were caught wheeling on private property (in this case, a factory's land). What fines/penalties would you be subject to, if caught by the police?

I understand wheeling illegally if highly frowned upon, but in Philadelphia, it is nearly impossible to go offroading legally since I cant afford to drive up to Rausch Creek or any of the other parks, which are all really far away. Also, I dont do major damage to the land since the trails were already there because of previous people ridin back there.

You could face various charges trespassing. You could also face fines easily over $250 and jail time. Just go to a place legal and avoid giving this sport a bad image by doing that.

Definately check local laws.. Around here, wheeling in certain places is mandatory vehicle confececation (sp?)

Just doing a quick search on PA Dept of conservation & Natural Resources website..

Offenders also may charged with agricultural vandalism, criminal trespass and criminal mischief under the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.

“Depending upon the severity of damages and other circumstances, offenders could now face charges ranging from misdemeanor to third-degree felony charges, fines totaling over $5,000, and the need to obtain an attorney

me and my friend got arrested wheelin on this dudes property.

just dont do it. its not worth it, and make us all look bad.

Just save up your cash for a few weeks - and its only a 2 hr drive to RC.

I don't make a practice of wheeling on other peoples property (or forest land etc) but somebody pointed me to an offroad area once (i was new to the area, this was in Washington state) and when i got there it looked pretty legit (logging roads) but i decided it was private property after there was a drunk redneck in his boxers shooting at me with a small riffle outside a mobile home (with garbage piled everywhere around it) which was about 300 ft from where i was wheeling. he got off 10 shots or so before we got out of range, but didn't even manage to hit the truck.

needless to say, wheeling on private property can be a very bad idea. ..what if he was sober and/or could aim!

my family has some property. and if i catch somebody wheeling/abusing it, my way of handling the situation would be to run them down in my exo'd bronco and ram into them. mostly just because it would be fun for me. once again, not a good idea to offroad here (unless you want to play)

ok i take some of that back. i did offroad on somebodys field once.. but my friend at least knew the guy who owned. and it wasn't planted or anything. but it was worth it for some snow-wheeling..innertubing, and snowboarding.. (being stranded in california i don't get to play in snow very often!) pics to fallow :)

Yeah I'll definitely stop wheeling there now that I know how bad it can turn out. Its a bunch of trails and stuff that people ride quads on, and mud pits and all, so it looks pretty legit, but its not worth losing my X because of stupidity. (theres also a colony of homeless people that live in the woods right there, so i assume getting robbed/carjacked is pretty easy) Guess Ill have to start heading up to RC. Thanks for the responses

Just imagine if you were wheeling illegally and broke something bad enough where you needed help getting home...try and convince somebody to come get you! A friend of mine did that once and called me to come get him. I said no and the police ended up coming, bad news.

I'm going to go ahead and be someone to state the obvious for any visitors from other forums that read this.

Wheeling on closed or private property is just plain stupid. Legal places to wheel are being shut down at every opportunity and the few bad apples that think it's okay to go where they want are ruining this for the rest of us. It's a lose-lose. Wheelers won't approve, the general public won't approve. Do the rest of us a favor who want this hobby to be around in the future and stay off private property.

Why not just ask first? Most people I know who own property will let people hunt, paintball, wheel, ect as long as you ask first. Most will call the sheriff if they find you and you didn't. I know a couple ex military guys who will literally hunt you (with one warning shot) if they see someone where they shouldn't be.

They must be stupid, if I had property NOBODY would be on it unless I knew them VERY well and I was there the whole time.

Maybe that's just me though, I've always hated sharing, ever since I can remember.
