Console Vault for Explorer

OK, I heard back from Tuffy. They confirmed that power seats retain full range of motion with the security drawer in place and the drawers can be used on either / both front seats. Go to their site and you can open the PDF installation manual showing how seemingly simple it is to install.

My one hesitation is that it uses the OEM front seat nuts for mounting. I am going to see if I can find a correctly threaded security nut to use instead, just to add another layer of delay / security to the drawer.

I am ordering two since I get a department discount. The rep I communicated with agreed with me that the key lock is more practical than the combination lock, especially in the dark, while seated, in a panic, etc.

How did this turn out?

Any idea why the Tuffy drawer does not work/fit the Sport models? We have several tuffy products at work and they seem to be of good quality and fit.

The only thing I can think of is maybe it's got to do with the filter for cooled seats, assuming the Sport has them?

The tuffy drawer fits the sport. I ordered one like 8 months ago not realizing it said it doesn't fit the sport model so I figured I would try it anyway. It bolts right in no problems. It is poorly designed though. There are tiny #6 screws that hold the drawer track on in the rear and in the front the tiny screws go through the drawer track through the case and through the retaining bracket. You could easily remove them with a screwdriver given how small the screws are. The thief could whack the 4 nuts hanging outside the box and the whole case will slide out of the retaining bracket. Given the screws are so tiny it wouldn't take but seconds to do. I actually broke one test fitting the thing.

So what I did was replace the tiny screws with 10/32" button head bolts which barely cleared the interior of the track. I had to file the lock nut ever so slightly. Then I added 1/4x20 from the case to the retaining bracket. So it went from 4 tiny #6 screws to 4-10/32" and 8 1/4x20. It should help substantially given how pathetic the original setup was. I am going to replace the factory seat bolts with some spline drive nuts to add hopefully another layer of securing it.
