This seems to be a quick, neat setup that won't affect your warranty. Article claims it can be easily installed in 15 minutes.

I have to admit I don't really know much about these things but for some members it seems it may be an alternative to some of the 'tune' posts I've read.

Looks interesting, maybe i'll spring for one to test it out. Sounds like its too goood to be true though

I came across the link to that site through the Ford Authority Daily Digest (news letter) which I just signed up for yesterday.

This is something I would not recommend. Ive tried it before on a friends mustang and although it seemed to give it a little more pep, the car would idle terrible. Would not stay constant, then the car wouldnt start until it was removed.
Your pretty much slicing into the IAt wires which regulate the fuel air mix ratio. In the process, its going to give false signals to the ecu and thats where it gets hairy. This is old stuff, best bet is to go for a tune and spend the extra money

This is just a gimmick that is MORE likely to void your warranty if something goes wrong. It is just a simple resistor that makes the ECU think its hotter than actual outside. The ECU then leans out the fuel mixture which on older vehicles with a distributer would add a few HP. On newer vehicles it most likely has the opposite effect since the ECU would pull timing due to hot temps and reduce HP.

According to the write up, it increases both HP and mileage and will not affect warranty. Even if it did, it would be no different than if something went wrong with the 'tunes' some members are installing.

This is not a tune, it is a glorified resistor in a box which attempts to trick the computer into thinking the intake air temp is colder than it is, richening the mixture slightly. It will have negligible or no effect on our cars*

*source: I used to be a semi/professional tuner in another life.

I don't even think the Explorer / Ecoboost tunes reference IAT for timing or fueling. In any case I'd stay clear of this hack.

I wouldn't believe anything written on that website personally. The difference to me is the visual indicator that something has been modified. Most dealers might not be able to tell themselves if the vehicle is tuned. Whereas they will definitely see a resistor box spliced into the IAT sensor.

This trick has been around forever. Not worth it.

What's next? The tornado intake gadget?

One of the many benefits of a flasher such as the SCT, connect to the OBDII port, and "return to stock" in seconds.

It "works" too. ;)

Performance chip

Hey guys, anyone add a performance chip that helps get some horses and help save some gas mileage?thanks

Yes. Tuners are available. I went with one from Livernois. Big difference with a performance tune on a Sport.

Not sure if there is a performance chip that you can put in and take out when vehicle is serviced under warranty. I would love to have one myself.
It sounds like the physical exhaust and other mechanical things needs to be changed in the car to have just a little bit of performance increase. If there would be a performance chip like BMW after market would offer, then there would be a flood of threads on the forum.

There are no replaceable "chips" used anymore. Tuner/ Programmer can be purchased that plugs into the OBDII port under the dash and modifies the computer programming. The tuners can hold a few different tunes, such as optimized for use with different octane fuels, or towing. And yes it can be plugged back in and returned to "stock" settings also. Here's what I have. There are lots of threads on tuners.

Stay away from anything with the word "CHIP" in it. Its all a joke. If you wont more out of your engine, get a tune from a reputable shop that actually does things the right way, instead of a hack job.
