Okay Glacier and Brain, here goes. I finally got the transmission out and something is really strange. I could have sworn I pulled the converter maybe a 1/4 inch to bolt it to the flexplate. I have the whole thing out on the floor and I can't even wiggle the converter. Some small things indicated someone had had it out before. I found out it was Aamco (?). Besides the rock solid converter there is a small area under the converter that looks like something had attempted to run down from the shaft area and it is as hard as epoxy or fiberglass. I don't remember anything like that in your transmission diary. I can wiggle the converter and shaft up and down a bit and when I turn it something is rough like maybe bearings. Now I am wondering if someone cobbled it together long enough to get rid of it. If someone did glue the converter in with something it probably means I am fighting a losing battle. Let me know what you think of this if you don't mind.

Now I have another mystery. Before I couldn't budge the converter. This morning it came right off. I now know for sure the converter was in right. I compared the old and new flexplates and they are the same. When I put the converter onto the transmission I can really wobble it. When I tried to turn the input shafts of the transmission I discovered that I couldn't. They are both solid no matter where I put the shifting lever. Are these two items, converter wobble and input shafts stuck, normal? I hope these are good clues to a cheap and easy fix. One other thing, why doesn't the input shaft of the converter go into the back of the crankshaft? There is no sign it ever was in contact.
