Today, I took my 16 Sport to my neighbors, to deliver a heavy package. The total distance was about 2000 feet. Dropped the package, and drove back home. I had not used the car since last night, so the engine was cold. The outside temperature was about 55 degrees (f). When I drove into my driveway and got out of the car, the coolant fan was running. It stopped after about 30 seconds. My question is, isn't the fan activated by temperature? If this is the case, then I can't understand how a trip that took less than a minute would cause the engine to get that hot. Is this normal, or does it need to be looked at. I have only put about 40 miles on it since the battery was replaced last week because of a bad cell.

The fan will periodically run max to prevent the contacts from seizing together inside the fans and causing a stuck fan which could cause overheating. It was a major issue with the 2011 - 2012 models and so they added software to run the fans periodically from time to time to prevent that from happening. I think it's normal.
