Coolant runs into the overflow when it gets too high... but does it run back into the tank when it gets too low. I am looking to replace the overflow tank but most of the ones I see have the hoses connected at the top. Will that be ok?

my understanding is that it's a give and take system.....

As long as there's a straw that goes down inside to the bottom of the tank or a built-in one on the side in the plastic it should work.

summit overflow...

I ordered a small black one from summit... it is about 4" round and 10" long, has a hose fitting at the top and a bleeder at the bottom. Do you think it has a straw down in it?

It ought to. Ican't see how it would work without one. Maybe you could call them.

It will have a straw inside. Only old cars had the extra coolant dumping out onto the ground. It will give and take as your original one did.

Strawless...

I recieved it in the mail yesterday and there is no straw. It's an awesome looking overflow and built with some heavy duty plastic. Not a problem though, I am going to remove the drain, insert a plug/cap, flip it upside down and mount it. This way it will give and take from the bottom just as intended. Looks good though... and it's black! :D Thanks everyone and I'll post a pic once it's in (today).

ohhh so it works when it's mounted upside down?? ok now I get it
