Overheating and coolant overflow.

94 Explorer runs but busted radiator hoses. So I changed the hoses and thermostat. Now the temp gauge goes high low and all over the place. The overflow tank is also over floowing. Could it be a blown head gasket, cracked cylnder? I have no idea. It runs but not all that well.. I have checked the plugs that are easy to get to and all are fine except one has crud and bridged the electrode. So it was not firing. Any help would be appreciated. Thnks

Did you put the thermostat in the correct way (bearing at the top)? Before the hoses busted were you having much problems?

Sounds Likeyou could have overfilled the coolant resevior. Did you burp the air out of your coolant system when you refilled? The temperature gauge will move around when the thermostat is opening and closing. If you have air in your system or the wrong thermostat your heat system can be affected.

Yeah I am going to do a compression check. I put the thermo in the right way. I tried to purge the system of air but when I take the cap off the raditor to purge the bublles out it over flows like crazy. It is like their is pressure in the radiator forcing coolant out. Heat worked today.

That sounds exactly like what mine started doing B4 the head gasket/heads went. Check your oil carefully and make sure you don't have water in it. Also check the radiator fluid for oil. Good Luck
