That's where the heater lines to/from the water pump are. I'd check them.

Although I've had more leaks from the upper radiator hose to water outlet connection.

Ok ill check that is there a thermosat houseing there like the sohc i really cant see
but its defently coming from that area thanks

Sort of...if your leak is definitely right behind/under the alternator, then only the heater line goes through there. You should check the thermostat area for leaks anyway. It looks like this:

coolent leak under a/c unit

ok i go a real good look at my explorer today i found the leak on my 4.0 ohv
the leak is coming from the area where the intake and the head meets like the water jacket area i did find that 3 of the lower intake bolts where loose at the front of the motor where the leak is coming from i torked them to speck in hope
that the leak stops ???? if not i guess ill have to replace the intake gaskets
that will suck ill let you know what happens thanks

Good luck! If your leak stops, I'd retorque again in a few months.

I thought the lower intake bolts are designed to stretch and they really cannot be retorqued for too long, they need to be changed.....

The head bolts are like that, but not the intake manifold. The head bolts are under a pretty good amount of torque (~90ft-lbs or so IIRC), while the intake manifold bolts are under barely any (~10 ft-bls).

The new Fel-Pro gasket I installed said that the old, single piece gasket has been redesigned into a two piece set because the old design was causing loosening.

Good to know, thanks
