What's up everyone,

so I got the old truck scanned. Came up with a Cooling temperature sensor code? Ive never heard of this. My question is where is this located ? Could I change it myself? and if not how expensive would it be to have it done ? Any advice or heads up would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance,

Nick -

There is a plastic housing in the middle of your engine bay. It is behind your fan belts but in front of your engine. The plastic housing has two radiator hoses that go into it. The top of the housing is held on with three bolts. In this housing is located your thermostat. On top of the housing is the temperature sender with a wire attached to it. Pull the wire and then put a deep well socket over the sender to pull it out. Make sure that the deep well socket fits completely down on the nut and over the plug. If you do not reach the nut your deep well socket isn't deep enough. Do not force it down as you will break the delicate plastic. Don't ask me how I know this but that plastic housing costs about $150.00. Pull it out and replace it. Some people use a little teflon tape on the threads when they put the new one in.

You will need some extentions and a good deepwell socket. I think it is 3/4 but it might be smaller. When you turn it get a good bite and a steady turn so you hopefully won't break the plastic.

Good Luck,

Mikeh-

thanks for the details i really appreciate that , ill let you know how it goes. Im gonna try to tackle it tommorow . Does this get messy ?

It's a little messy. Put a pan under your truck when you pull the sensor to catch the fluid that leaks out. You won't loose much but enough to make a mess.

Good Luck,
mikeh
