I'm looking for the correct lifting and jacking points for my '98 V6 OHV 4WD Explorer?
Where should I place my floor jack and jackstands? I have currently used the rear "pumpkin" and the center suspension brace....where is the best place to set the jackstands?
Thanks

In the front, I usually place my floor jack under the crossmember. That is, if you don't want to lift the wheels. Use the LCA if for some reason you need to compress the suspension. And IIRC, there are inverted hooks welded to he crossmember for stands. If I want to lift the whole side, I usually place my jack (and stands if needed) along the frame rail. In the rear, the diff can be used as long as you don't jigger the cover and cause a leak. And I usually place stands in the rear beneath the axel tubes.
BEFORE JACKING MAKE SURE YOU CHOCK/BLOCK ANY TIRES THAT WILL REMAIN ON THE GROUND. Also, DO NOT TRUST ANY JACK (hydraulic or otherwise) TO HOLD THE VEHICLE UP WITHOUT STANDS! Always jack the car, set stands, and then release the jack to set the vehicle on the stands. (Dontcha' love disclaimers.)

I suggest you read your owner's manual. The front cross member isn't strong enough to lift the vehicle. I admit to doing it, but I've also dented the x-member in doing so. As far as the rear, I try to use the spots provided (and suggested) under the leaf spring perches. I don't know why Ford tells you not to jack under the center chunk, but perhaps it's to avoid inadvertently damaging the cover.

I put my safety stands in front on the small frame brackets (length-wise) that are next to the "B" body mounts and the rear safety stands under the axle, or sometimes the frame rails depending on what I'm doing.

In the rear I always use the center of the housing (pumpkin) & put the jack stands under the rear housing tubes. In the front I usually jack it up under the lower control arms, & most times I am only raising one side at a time so I will leave the floor jack under the lca & put a jack stand under the bracket for the rear of the torsion bar & lower the truck until it rests on the jack stand leaving the floor jack still under the lca. I do it that way on our 99 Sport & my 00 Ranger 4X4.

I never use the rear pumpkin or the tubes. They are thin walled and might deform. Always use the connection point of the leafs for my jack stands.

In front, I never use the welded anti-bottom hooks, they don't look sturdy enough to trust mi life with them. Jack under LCA or under the torsion bar hexagon.
