I need to do the shocks on my 93 eddie b, from what i can tell they look fairly easy to do...especially with the spring separated from the shock - as in not a strut assembly :)

i'm fairly capable with a wrench...just never done shocks on my X b4 :)

You can do it.

I did mine not too long ago and it is so easy...makes me wonder why people don't do it themself.

18mm socket on the bottom (18mm was a popular size for first gens wasnt it?)

8mm box wrenth and 1/2 wrench for the top.

Takes... 5 minutes for each side... you dont even need to jack the car up or anything. Just do it in the driveway with the wheels on the ground.

yea, really not hard at all.

you're kidding me....don't even have to jack the X up??? huh?!? how do you get the new shock on, compressed exactly the length you need?

So I guess a wheel alignment after isn't really required then..

I need one more piece of advice - due to my current finiancial situation (just bought a house) is it ok to replace just the fronts for now? Those are really bad however the rears are not bad at all. I plan doing the rears, just not yet as money is tight.

After changing shocks? No alignment is needed.

Good luck ..........

good stuff - I'm too used to doing struts, which require an alignment right after.

I'll have to size up the truck this week, maybe even do it some week night.

just drive to the autoparts store and replace them in the parking lot

just make sure you spray the bolts down with wd-40 a day before you do the job

Replacing a standard height strut with a standard height strut doesn't require an alignment either.

most shops recommend it though if you're doing the front struts.

are boots required for this install? or jsut the shocks themselves...i'm talking about the rubber shock boots you can buy...

edit: nevermind, the parts place indicated its not neccessary and dont list a boot for the shock...

so if i were to go buy new front shocks I wouldnt have to replace the large spring then?
