The headlight switch on my 1997 Explorer XLT has died just before I start a new job. At least the days are getting longer and I'll just have to be cautious about overtime;)

I found a procedure in the forum to replace the switch, but it looks far more complicated than I want to try. Any estimates for the cost and time for a dealer or independent mechanic to replace the switch are appreciated, along with any "Watch out for" or "Run away if they say" warnings.

Thanks.

It's just bolts to remove the trim- no way I'd let a shop do that. I think they'd ding you for $100+ plus the switch, probably take a few hours for them. For you, maybe 45 minutes.

IIRC, to get the switch out, you may have to take out as few as 13 screws/bolts to pull that side of the instrument cluster trim out.

The bolts in the first 5 pictures are all you need to remove... http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=331226&postcount=1
