I've been searching around and can't seem to find anything specific on a couple of issues I'm having.

First, the gear teeth in the driver seat recliner mechanism appear to be stripped out. Is this common and is there a simple fix or do I have to source a new seat?

Second, ocassionally, the engine acts like it turns off for 1/10th of a second. It's been doing this since new, never lasts more than a couple of sparks. Always runs normally for days. Sometimes it happens more than once a day, other times it can go for months without doing it. It doesn't seem to be getting worse but it's sure annoying when it does it. Common problem and fix?

Thanks.

I think it's unlikely the gears are actually stripped. More likely the mechanism has enough dirt and gunk built up it acts like stripped gears. Try spraying some sort of cleaner in and around the area where the gears are. Best to remove the seats first, or at least stuff rags under the area, cuz that stuff will leak through. I did this with some seats I pulled from the salvage yard last week. They were pretty gunked up and the lever and reclining mechanism didn't work like they should. The lever wouldn't move all the way down to lock in the gear the way it should without help.

Seat recliner - As said, most likely the recliner mechanism is dirty and is not working smoothly. They get full of dust, lint, dog hair, whatever and as they are lubed from the factory the gunk sticks in the mechanism. Clean it out and re-lube it.

If the recliner mechanism is damaged in some way, just replace it with a new or used mechanism. You can probably find a used one on eBay or a new one on Amazon or RockAuto.

Other issue - Sounds electrical. Wiring to PCM or coil maybe ???
