FAINT HEART DOTH NOT MAKE NIFTY MODS, amigo!
I have only done this once, but I HEARTLY recommend that you get a PLASTIC putty knife with which to pry, and wash the whole rocker area carefully before you start.
The first precaution is to avoid scratching the rocker area paint (lest you decide, after removing the ground effect panels, that this was Not A Good Idea and which to re-mount them.
The second is to avoid scratching the same paint by rubbing sand or abrasive grundge into the finish.
You can use a Panel Puller to remove the long plugs with the annullar rings from the inside of the pinch weld. They're very soft plastic, and will fight you much of the way. But you can r-use those connectors to reverse the mod.
I used a Window Scraper (availaber in the Tool Corral at Home Despot). This is the kind that holds an industrial razor blade from the rear. It ihas JUST enough reach to sever the soft plastic, shearing the plug in two and dropping the parts onto the driveway (and into your face). This method takes about 4 times as long, but is much more fun.

I'm still driving around with masking tape on mine, but then, I'm not Externally Validated and don't rally care much how it looks, so long as it Starts, Runs Well, and Doesn't Leak Oil.
