My guess is the rating wouldn't be that great by today's standards, but let me tell you, a tree at 30-35 and I could barely feel it, and the truck is back on the road. just look at the link in my sig.

Could you find something on the 2nd gen explorers? 95-01? I may be completely wrong about this, but because they share so much else in common, are they the same structurally as well? As far as safety goes though, i know the 2nd gens have airbags and the 1st gens don't. That's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

I think the ratings would be skewed by the airbags.
The survivability its much affected by my head hitting the airbag vs hitting the steering wheel.

You should have never asked this question, cause now people might think we could be driving a robot that can save us from a 400000 MPH head on wreck haha. Ha, I've almost rolled this 6 times, I gave up caring about safety, or the simple fact the truck doesn't come with air bags haha. My truck:

no anti lock brakes
no air bags
all metal and plastic
no soft stuff besides seats
no traction control
I don't think of it as a safe car....more of an adventurous, surprising car haha.
I still love it though. Full frame is the way to go baby.
