I just bought a 95 Explorer. After driving it around today I notice that the steering wheel is not parallel to the dash! Sitting in the truck, the steering wheel's right side is closer to my body that the left. Is this normal?? If not, does anybody know what might be the casue of this?
Thanks

I'd check Carfax or something to see just how many accidents your Explorer has been in! Does it feel messed up.. or did you just notice by looking at it?

I have checked out my truck with Carfax and they reported no accidents.
I think my next thing to do is to take it to the dealer and see what they think.
Thanks

Is your seat crooked??

Thanks for the replays.
No my seat is not crooked. The steering wheel is not off by much, but just enough to notice.
Does anyone know if there is any kind of adjustments in the brackets??

maybe if the seat isnt crooked your eyes are....im just kidding. i suggest taking it to the dealer

wierd... it shouldnt be crooked side to side like that... unles there is some major damage somewhere.... remeber, carfax doesnt know everything..... my truck has been rolled 2 times, wrecked one other time, and been in several accidents as well... there is nothing on my carfax report... and very few things on my dmv, well, 4 accidents... but those arent counting me totaling it and fixing it myself and me rolling it the first time and insurance fixing it, or rolling it the second time, and having to hack the roof and turn it into its current convertable state.....

And what is your VIN Jim? I just don't wanna end up w/ur X in a couple years;)

Why did you buy this truck without finfing out why the wheel is crooked?

todd. dont worry, my truck is getting driven till it is no longer driveable, and i am never getting rid of it..... going to be an all out convertable with a full cage, 33s or 35s, and lockers.... without lift, but totally tubed

I noticed on a work truck that it had that.

I also noticed I caused it on a rental.
I was on a long drive, got to a stop light I had both hands at 12 O'clock pushed forward and stretched thats what did it. I know it was me because It was a new rental less than 50 miles.

OK, I took my Explorer into the dealership to see if they could see why the steering wheel is crooked. It was a simple fix.
There are some slotted holes that the steering colunm bolts to. They loosen the bolts and straigthen up the wheel. The guys at the shop told me they have seen this before even on new trucks.

I guess the boyz at the factory need to stop smokin' crack on their breaks!

Thanks for all your replys! :chug:

Ah HA!!! I also have a crooked wheel
I used the handy search feature to find this thread, and now I will take it to the dealer and have it adjusted. Im so happy now :D
