Cruise, 4WD, and Overdrive off dash indicators don't work unless park lights on

96 4.0 limited 4wd auto.
my dash indicator lights for 4WD, Cruise, or OD off, do not work unless the park light are on. they all work fine Cruise works. 4WD works, and does kick out of over drive only the indicator lights act this way. All other indicator lights work properly. any ideas?

i've check all the fuses inside and out. where is the dimmer module located?

It's the knob that you spin to dim the dash lights.

been looking at my diagrams looks like i may be able to rewire and bypass this if nothing else as the lights appear to be ground activated and not receiving power with light's off.

will one out of a ranger work? neighbor has a wrecked ranger not sure of the year but if it appears from around the late 90's

Following the circuit

Check fuse #11 in the Interior fuse panel. After that the dimmer relay (not switch), and headlamp switch come next in that circuit. I would suspect your headlamp switch's internal contacts are fouled if I had to guess. Use equipment with the same electrical specs as the original. They are not things you can just throw in there.

it was the dimmer relay. i didn't realize that those lights work off the dimmer switch so never thought about that being the cause
