This is in reference to my MAF codes and lack of OD/cruise control post in the powertrain section.

First, where the heck is the cruise control amplifier at? I have been told it is supposed to be under the dash on the driver's side, I can't see it. There is a braket on the aluminium dash support with two boxes on it. One with alot of wires and two plugs on the end I thought was it, but I scaveneged a spare amp and I can't find one like it with the two plugs coming from the side of the box and card type connectors. Supposedly it takes the same amp as a 89 F series and 88 T-bird both which I have access to and know what the box looks like from them and pics I have seen of them for sale.

Second, am I right if the speedo is working properly all the time that the VSS is good? Where in the harness does the VSS signal go to the amplifier or does it come from the speedo itself? And likewise where does it go to the PCM? I have full Ford service manuals for 1995 F-series and they say signal goes to speedo first and is modified there and sent to both. Is a 93 Aerostar the same?

Third, am I right if the brake lights work properly that the BOO is good? They never stick on and they do work so I am assuming that isn't the problem either.

Last, how do you clean the MAF on a 4.0L? I found the one for the 3.0L but mine appears to have a screen in it and not like the 3.0L.

Sorry if these questions are common, but I am on dialup and it takes me forever to find anything.

Thanks, Jeff

According to the diagram in my Ford software, it's located behind the passenger's side kick panel under the dashboard. The VSS communicates with the PSOM, speed control amplifier, rear anti-lock brake module, and the PCM module. It sounds like the BOO is working properly. The sensing element on the MAF has to be removed. You will need the anti theft torx bit to remove the screws.

Belated thanks for the info. Sorry it took so long. I wanted to drive it for a while to see if I fixed my the issues in my thread in the EEC IV forum. I tried 3 different amplifiers but I don't know if any are good and have no vehicle with this system that runs I can test them on. I think my very dirty air filter was fouling my MAF. I replaced it and cleaned the sensor. I believe that fixed it. Thanks again.
