So, about 3 months ago I was driving 60 with cruise control on and it randomly shut off and hasn't worked since then, when I try to turn it on, the light doesn't come on and it doesn't start, well I'm asking what this could possibly be now, because the town I live in just recently opened up its third, yes I said THIRD state police Barracks building, not to mention the still existing village police! I live in a tiny town of maybe like 1000-1500 people with 4 stop lights... so lets just say that I see 4 police cars every 1-2 blocks or so... so I NEED cruise control for my lead foot!

Anyways.. I checked the fuse box and power distribution box for broken fuses and I couldn't seem to find the one for cruise control (I even looked in the owners manual and I couldn't find it) any ideas on what it could be? Hopefully not something too expensive :-p

I recently got my vehicle scanned and nothing came up..
----------
Also:

While I was looking through the power distribution box, I noticed that the "Air Ride Control System" fuse(MAXI Fuse: #12) was missing, what exactly does this mean/do?

My ABS fuse was also missing, but I can just replace that..

ANY help ould be useful, thanks!! :)

Check into the current recall that's going on for the cruise control disconnect, I'm betting that may solve your problem.

EDIT: Oh yeah, don't park it in the garage until you get the recall done, don't want the garage to burn down with the X.

Hmm... I heard about the recall, but I thought we were supposed to get a letter from the dealership about it? My parents received one for their 150 Econoline Conversion van about the cruise control problem, but not me :(

I remember seeing a post or sticky about the recall one here, but I can't seem to find it now

Get that looked at, it could be the defective switch. I went and had mine done before the letter came. They'll take a look at the car and see what needs to be done.
The air ride suspension fuse is only necessary if you have the air ride option.

I went to the local ford dealership and they basically said "Uhh, we can't check to see if you're eligible for the recall because your vehicle is over 10 years old"

and then they proceeded to tell me that putting the plug in anyways wouldn't solve the problem..

They want to charge me $56 per hour to just figure out whats wrong with it! :(

Thats bs. Go in for something like and oil change then they can check it out while tha tis going on. Although they should be able to check there computers to make sure. I do know you can find out on the Ford website.

Mine was in the recall and i have a 99, and my parents Explorer was also in the recall they have a 97.

Ugh.. I hate that "10 years old" crap. They did that to me with my '89 CV and charged me $200 so they could proceed to f*ck it up.

The brake shutdown switch is located on the brake cylinder. You can test that to see if it's a problem. The guy who put in the fuse link looked down into the connector to see if there was any corrosion. I suppose you could check that yourself. If you don't feel good about the switch you can just unplug it until you can fix it.

I dont know exactly where the switch is though :(

I believe the switch is located on the bottom of the brake fluid reservoir left hand side standing at the front of the truck. :salute:

He's right. Take a look, the harness that plugs into the brake cylinder right in front of the brake fluid reservoir is the cruise control shutdown input. If I can find one I'll post pics.

OK, I'll check it out, if you can find pics, that would be awesome lol
