I have an 02 EXP that has been having CC problems for about 2 months now. There are days it will work fine, and other where it will shut down after a mile or two and then quit working all together for 30-45 mins. I try it again and it will work fine.

I replaced the transducer on the master cylinder but that didn't solve my problem. No problems with other lights (ABS etc) so I talked to a friend behind the counter at the sevice dept at the local dealership. He tells me that it is either the actuator, or the BPP. They price the actuator out at $137. They have been finding that is the problem in numerous cases lately. Is the actuator the same as the servo? Anyways I found one for $20 and figured that I would put in a different one to see if that is my problem.

Then today I talked to a mechanic who owns his own shop and he tells me that it is probably the clock spring if the CC indicator light goes out when it fails. Says that is what he has found most recently. The clock spring is $120-$150 and about 2hrs labor to put it in.

I guess I will find out it short order what the problem is but dammit this pisses me off. Any suggestions would be appreicated. Read most of the other threads I can find on here about the issue and I seem to get more confused the more I read on the subject.

Hope you find a fix soon...then post it...;)

When I try to activate my CC the light blinks on then off quickly on the dash.
Dealer had truck for days and couldn't find issues. It's still not working.

Good luck!

Usually the Clock spring in the steering wheel if the indicator turns off or a bad on/off switch. If the cruise light stays on then the actuator took a dump (my experiances with Mark VIII's anyway)

My Wife's 02' mounty is pissing us off as any moderate bump in the road kicks the cruise control off and I've tryed adjusting the brake petal switch.

Sounds like my clock spring then, or a bad switch. I don't want to mess around the steering wheel wheel with the airbag.

JUST2L, any update on your problem?

It's such an easy thing to troubleshoot, if the doggone dealerships would just follow their own service procedures. They can connect a scanner to the system, and view the PIDs, and switch inputs and narrow it down very quickly.

As for what's causing the deactivation for the original poster, it's tough to diagnose via the internet. If it was the BPP switch (AKA Brake on-off switch) it should also cause your brake lights to come on at the same time as the failure. I highly doubt that's the problem.

If you suspect the servo, if there's any way you could swap a known good one from someone else's vehicle, that would be ideal. Otherwise, try a local pick-and-pull, or www.car-part.com for a used replacement to try. Worst case, you can sell one of 'em on Ebay.

Good luck!

Hate to throw in another option but it could be the cc buttons in the wheel that are failing. That was my problem.

I bought a used acuator on line and waiting for it's arrival. I will post as soon as I get it and find out if it 's the problem.

Ok so the part I ordered aparently from a 00' EXP will not work for the 02, when I was assured that it wouldn't be a problem. So I am scouring the internet once again looking for an 02 actuator unit.

If anyone has one or knows where to find one let me know. Thanks.

So I called a salvage yard this morning and they had the servo on hand for $35. I made a run and picked it up. When I got home I took a few minutes and looked the thing over and figured it wouldn't be to difficult to put it in.

About 15 minutes later the part was installed. I made a mad dash out of town and the cruise worked perfectly. Now since this was not constant problem in the begining I will have to wait to declare a victory over the dealership until a road trip is conducted. However I am hopeful that this was the problem.

Dealership Part $137
Installation $75
Doing it yourself for $35 in 15 minutes...priceless!

I went through all this on my 94 Limited, cleaned the clock springs, ran the ford test on the Acutator or Servo (yes the same thing) , even tok and Ohm Meter (VOM) and ohmed out the wiring and finally found I had a bad Cruise Amplifier.
