Cruise "resume" button fell off

The other morning, I got in my Explorer to go to work and noticed that the "resume" button was missing from the steering wheel. I couldn't see the button anywhere in or near the truck, so I don't know what happened to it (the shoemaker hasn't paid his elves in a while????).

Anybody know if the button is replaceable by itself, or do I need to get a new hornpad or a new steering wheel in order to fix it? How do those buttons hook on there and work (maybe I can rig something)?

I got the same issue with the 'ON' button.

I don't knwoe where to get one without buying an entire Front assembly but I bet there is a plastic, snap-in tab that broke off to cause it to fallout.

If you can get a replacement little button pad then all you have to do is unbolt the two bolts on the back of each little "arm" of the steering wheel. Then it will pull up, take a pair of needlenose pliers and unhook the plastic hook thing near the top. Then unhook the wiring harness by just taking your pliers and pulling it up off of the steering wheel. Once you get that off, turn the horn part you just took off over. You will see the button assemblies (one for each side), they come off using a phillips screwdriver. You can then pop them apart with your fingers. Once you have those apart you just take the old button pad out and put the new one in. Assembly mirrors the disassembly.

If you need pictures I can take them of each individual step of the way. It would make a nice "Useful Thread" except that almost nobody needs to do this.

I went ahead and took the pics. Hopefully Rick thinks this is worthy of a useful thread. I cant wait to meet him up at Crown King.

Here you can see the two bolts holding it on. (pic taken looking up from footwell) I used a 7mm socket and ratchet, but it felt a little loose. You can also use a torx bit but I'm not sure which size because I didn't check. It looks like a T20 though.

Here you can see the little plastic hook thing holding the horn assembly on.

Once you have it unhooked you can turn your attention to the wiring harness.

Here it is free from the steering column. You can see the phillips screws holding on the button assemblies.

Here is one of the button assemblies unscrewed.

Here is the backside showing the little clips. Once you unclip one side it just pulls apart.

Here it is completely disassembled. You will want to check the housing for damage or the button itself if you can find it, because they dont just pop out of the front side.

If anyone needs more detailed instructions or more pictures, let me know. Total time for this job if it is your first time is 10 minutes, if you have done it before it takes about 5 minutes from disassembly to reassembly.

UK.... That will not work over here. In America, the "R" key is for reverse. Need the "K" for "Keep Going"

That's a nice little write up there, cloaked_chaos. I'm guessing my best source for the part is going to be a junkyard.

You know what might be most irritating? For nearly a year, I've been procrastinating getting rid of my BII (with a dead rear end). 3 weeks ago, I called the Kidney Foundation to come get it, and it was carted off about 2 weeks ago. I'm wishing right now it was still in my driveway so I could switch switches.
