Crunching in 4wd??

I have a 92 X 4wd 4 door, This past weekend i was driving out to a big old feild party, it was kinda muddy so i pushed the 4wd button, it seemed to go into 4wd and drive fine, but i noticed a lot of crunching and odd noises as i drove, Ive driven in 4wd before mostly in teh snow and noticed the crunching before but figured it was just the snow packing under me. Is this normal? It seems to drive fine and 4wd seems to work. ANy help? thnx

Could be your axel u-joints or your auto hubs if you still have them.

This seems to happen to a lot of people, including me, but no one knows exactly what it is.. I dunno if anyone has ever fixed it... lots and lots of suggestions can be found using the search though
