Ladies and Gents,

Just for your info, don't buy anything dealing with car audio from Crutchfield. If you are a do-it-yourself person use the catalogs, like everyone else does, as a reference. Take it with you when you visit car audio shops. They have always been anywhere from $15-$150 higher than what I can get from my local car audio store.

Nothing personal against Crutchfield here, I just want everyone to know that you are not getting the best deal if you buy from them. (this info has proven to be true since I first received their catalog in 1995)

Here in the Bay Area, crutchfield has usually been about the same as fry's... Maybe a little more. So I can usually get a better deal from a smaller shop willing to deal with the price.

Hey pacman. GoodGuys?? Do you have a phone no. or webpage on them. I just got a pioneer cd player from crutchfield three weeks ago. Should have waited for better price? By the way when i was younger i played the pacman arcade game, was really good. Got up to the key or fifth key?? been a while now but the book on how to play really helped. Boy everyone was around just watching saying how hard it was and i thought yeah right, this...hehehe. Later...

Don't forget to check out The GoodGuy's. They have always been able to beat Crutchfield's prices and they actually keep a current copy of the Crutchfield catalog handy to verify prices...plus, the salespeople really know their equipment.

Funny you guys should mention the good guys. I've worked there for three years in guess what department? Car audio Dead Link Removed So i can safely say that i really know my stuff =) If any of you guys need anything and live in the Los Angeles Area, let me know.

Don't just assume crutchfield is more expensive, check it out first. I'll admit, they usually are a little higher, but if you're buying a head unit or even speakers, you get free installation kits and wiring harnesses...that could be $30-$40 right there. I like em...i filled out a survey and they gave me a free t-shirt and a year of car and driver. Just shop arround and make sure you include everything you'll have to buy in your final price.

I agree with the above entry that you should check it out first. Though the catalog is a great reference and most guys who really know what they are doing could find better deals. But for those who know some, but aren't experts the free guides, kits, and harnesses, as well as instructions for car disassembly are a great alternative to taking a little time to install it yourself. If you want to save quite a bit on installation at least look into Crutchfield. So check it out first, many people check out larger stores(Circuit City, and Best Buy) simply because they trust them or whatever. For these people, Crutchfield is no more expensive. I'm just trying to help those who have joined this message board and turned it into a knowledgable database for all explorer owners instead of a hangout for all the experts out there. If you fall into this catagory, check out Crutchfield, if not ,just ignore this message.

Guys, I must say that Crutchfield beats the crap out of every place in my part of the world. Saved me $40 or $50 based on no sales tax, wiring harness, etc. Do what I did...check around. Hey Bird, didn't I see where you are from Memphis? I used to go to Mempho a lot when I was in college at Jonesboro. Love them Rendezvous ribs and rasslin at the Coloseum!!!! Are you a Redbirds fan?
