Does anyone find the cupholders either too shallow and/or too large in diameter?

I had a 32oz McDonald's soda in it today and it kept wobbling back and forth. I had to hold it when making turns at an intersection because the drink is top heavy and I feared it would spill over. This also happened to a medium cup as well which is not top heavy.

I think the ones in the doors are a bit smaller but your right they are larger.

If you drop a Starbucks Grande cup in the console ones they will tip, so maybe you need extra sleeves?....LOL

That too...the grande cup tips. I'll ask the barista to slip on 5 sleeves next time. haha. Good one!

My God! These are the rantings of automotive enthusiasts these days?

Hahahaha, I knew it was a "White People" problem when Starbucks became a unit of measure.

Quick, somebody put solid axles under the front and rear of a new Explorer. It's getting out of hand. The MFT is total crap, the cupholders don't hold McDonalds or Starbucks cups in a satisfactory manner. Hell, I bet even Sperry's slip on the accelerator!

I find them better than my 2007 Explorer's. Seriously, though, this is what is getting complained on? :-) oh well.

I'm just messing around. I rarely have food or drink in my vehicle, so I obviously don't put much thought into the cupholders.

Just freaked when I took a turn and the whole cup almost spilled onto the passenger side. Luckily I caught it and only a few spills on the carpet.

And yup.. other than the minor issues of the A-pillar rattle and misaligned door panel... love the Ex. I take it as a good sign that it's all I'm complaining about.

Yea, I think they are a little wider because I had the same thing happen my first time with a large cup and a quick turn. I love my Ex, too. I kinda miss my 07 however. I liked the ground clearance and top of the door being lower (my arm rests higher in the '12). Almost even having some remorse. Wish I would have gotten 4x4 instead of the ecoboost since my MPG isnt as great as I expected and some of the AWD owners are getting what I am getting. Still breaking in, though. 3800 miles since 9/30. I hope it passes because I love the 305A package and the way it looks. Almost considering a 4x4 grand cherokee (eventhough a diehard Ford fan).

-sorry to hijack the thread-

There is all kinds of inserts into the cup holders at places like pepboys, that can tighten up the fit.

But yeah as coffee drinker and a creature of habbit, I go to places with green mountain coffee, those cups 20oz seem to fit ok

Seriously?

I use a sheet of paper towel folded into a quarter and stuff the cupholders with it for big cups. I haven't had a problem with McDonald's or Starbucks' coffee cups ... you sure you're not driving in a mini city (Disney like)? :-)

WOW!
I think that's the least of your problems! :D
Where they out of 'mini gallon' sodas?

OMG, really: its true though these are bigger than my F150, which were way to small and not deep enough, now they are bigger and a little deeper. Maybe we should just send them the size we need, based on info from the 32oz McDonalds to the grande Starbuck or tall...too funny!

It appears that the front one is larger and deeper and the back one is smaller and shallower. I had a 32 oz. McD's cup in the rear one today and it was snug as a bug....

Yeah, it's like that in the Escape. Pretty sure they do that so the wide tops of the cups will fit next to each other. If they were the same depth, the tops could push against each other making the cups sit tilted.

When I was working for Case Construction Equipment, they were contracting their Excavators through Sumitomo. We had to ship over 7-11 Big Gulp cups to them so they could form the cupholders for the consoles since they have nothing that size over there to relate to...
